“Go into all the world and preach the Good News to everyone.”

In 2001, a group of five people form Kingfisher church, Gloucester, were invited to visit a Bible School in Mikalongwe, south Malawi to do some teaching there and at an inter-church conference that had been arranged in Decze, central Malawi.

During this trip, the group came across a young pastor by the name of Charles Mithowa. Charles was, at that time, pasturing a small church of 20 people that met in his house, and was part of a group of people travelling with the team to Dedze. We recognised that God had something special in mind for Charles, and kept in touch with him after the end of the trip. Shortly after this, Charles felt God’s calling to launch a Kingfisher church in Malawi – a church that has now grown to seven churches with further churches in Zambia and Mozambique.

Charles Mithowa, National Director - Kingfisher Malawi

In 2005, James Burn travelled to Malawi to commission Charles as the National Director of Kingfisher church in Malawi and to dedicate the new Kingfisher Centre that had just been finished in Limbe, near Blantyre. Since that time, Charles has launched a Leadership Training College, that now has two branches – one at the Centre in Limbe and the other at a recently-started Kingfisher church in Mulanje district.

In 2008, a team of 8 people visited the growing ministry and were part of the first graduation ceremony at the new college in Mulanje – a wonderful occasion where 24 people graduated and were commissioned to go and plant new churches. As you can see from the video of the 2008 trip on the media page, Kingfisher church is alive and growing in Malawi, reaching an increasing number of lost people with the life-changing message of the Gospel.

In 2010 a team went out on a mission to the church in Malawi.
