“My heart, O God, is steadfast, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and make music. Awake, my soul! Awake, harp and lyre! I will awaken the dawn. I will praise you, Lord, among the nations; I will sing of you among the peoples. For great is your love, reaching to the heavens; your faithfulness reaches to the skies. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; let your glory be over all the earth.” Psalm 57:7-11 NIV
When David wrote this Psalm he was fearing for his life, hiding out in a cave, but still trusting that God was in control! As we read from verse 7 he is praying to God but he is also speaking to himself, ‘Awake my soul,’ telling his mind, his will and his emotions to wake up to the reality of God’s presence, that the darkness would not prevail, ‘I will awaken the dawn’ that the night would pass as he chose to sing of the greatness and the glory of God! What song have I got on my lips and in my heart as I wake up to this new week? How am I speaking to myself today? Lord, help me to be steadfast, focused on You, whatever might be coming after me, my soul fully awake to Your glorious presence. Amen 🙏🏼
