“Levi invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. (There were many people of this kind among Jesus’ followers.) But when the teachers of religious law who were Pharisees saw him eating with tax collectors and other sinners, they asked his disciples, “Why does he eat with such scum? ”” Mark 2:15-16 NLT
The very people that the religious elite thought were beyond help, written off, judged as too bad were exactly the ones that Jesus got up close and personal with! No one is too far gone in Jesus’ eyes. In eating with them he was seen as accepting them and by association defiling Himself. And yet His presence and love was the very thing that was changing them! Thank You Jesus for accepting me, thank You for Your closeness to me, sinful as I am. May Your love and Your presence in my life continue to change me, as I hold on to You, my Saviour and my friend.
