“‘This, then, is how you should pray: ‘ “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread…” Matthew 6:9-11 NIV
It is absolutely right that we ask God for what we need, but let’s not go straight into prayer with a list of things that we want Him to do. God is not a genie that we conjure up when we want some wishes to be granted, He is our Father! He already knows what we need but He desires relationship with us, He wants us to know Him and to know His will. Asking for what we truly need comes out of knowing that He is a good Father, His love is eternal and His faithfulness lasts forever, that there is power in His name, and that nothing we desire can compare with His Kingdom come and His will being done. Let’s seek to know Him first, it might just change what we ask for.
