“And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.” Matthew 6:12-13 NIVUK
Back in my school days we always used to pray, ‘And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against at us.’ As a kid, I had no idea what the word trespass meant, but actually it’s a great description of what sin actually is. To trespass is when you are on someone’s land without permission, unlawfully occupying ground where you shouldn’t be. From a sin perspective it’s when I am stepping into territory where I shouldn’t be walking, moving away from God’s path, beyond His safe boundaries. Trespassing on land that isn’t mine always results in a penalty to pay. But thank God, Jesus came to find us when we had wandered away, and He paid that debt on our behalf and He invites us to come to Him, to trust Him and to get us back on to His path that is actually heading to a great destination. Lord, thank You for Your great compassion and mercy, for the forgiveness I can know right now as I turn to You! Help me to walk in Your ways this week and in showing that same compassion and mercy to others help them understand how much You care for them too. Amen 🙏🏼
