“My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion for ever.”
Psalms 73:26 NIVUK
I’ve been thinking a lot about the heart this week, from a spiritual viewpoint. One site on actual heart failure says this, ‘Certain heart conditions, such as narrowed arteries in the heart, or high blood pressure, gradually leave the heart too weak or stiff to fill and pump blood properly.’ As Christians we are susceptible to things clogging up our spiritual arteries when we feed on too much junk other than God’s word, and when the pressures of life build up through tough circumstances. The danger is that our hearts can become weak and stiff too! Some of us are at risk of a heart arrest! I’ve been reminded recently to pray for a number of people whose hearts have just stopped beating for the things of God. But I have hope because God IS the strength of my heart. He can resuscitate and revive failing hearts. He has what we need to get our hearts pumping again and our lungs breathing more easily. I’ve been thinking this week about what we need to do to keep our hearts strong and healthy, and I’ll be sharing some of this on Sunday morning. Let’s be praying for those we know who are going into heart failure, tired Christians who have a fading passion and a faltering faith. And if that’s you, and you can see yourself flatlining, please reach out, I’d love to talk to you and pray for you 🙏🏼❤️🔥
