“Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervour, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Romans 12:11-12 NIV
Zeal is great energy and enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or objective, and fervour is an intense and passionate feeling! So many of us are just ill, tired and worn out right now, and the reality is that there is a huge lack of zeal and fervour. So what can we do? How do we get our hearts beating strongly again? In church right now, we’re looking at the CPR outlined in Thessalonians 5:16-18, read in reverse – Continually give thanks to God
Persist in prayer
Rejoice always and delight in your faith!
Here in Romans we’re encouraged to be joyful in hope (think of the hope we have in Christ, all He has accomplished for us and the future He is preparing for us); patient in affliction (this is choosing a good attitude in the waiting); faithful in prayer (don’t stop turning to God, talking to Him, thanking Him, listening to Him). Putting these things into practice is what will give us zeal, the spiritual strength we need to sustain our fervour and keep us going in pursuit of the cause of Christ, the greatest cause this world has ever seen! Lord, help me to stir up my zeal today, my heart beating passionately for You, and for the things of Your Kingdom. Holy Spirit, come and fill me, teach me, and guide me I pray. Amen 🔥🙏🏼
