“‘I baptise you with water for repentance. But after me comes one who is more powerful than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptise you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” Matthew 3:11 NIV
‘The ability to manage fire has been credited as one of the key points in the success of humans as a species.’ Fire generates light, it keeps us warm, wards off predators, and it also plays an important role in propulsion and signalling. We need fire physically, but it is also vital spiritually, and the One who would bring it was Jesus! If you’ve ever done any fire training you will have heard of the fire triangle, the three things needed for a chemical reaction that causes an ignition and for fire to break out: fuel, heat, and oxygen! Without one of these elements, no fire! It’s the same spiritually, the fuel is us, people who are willing to be used to be light and to signal good news, the heat is prayer as we draw close to God, seeking His will and purpose, but we still need oxygen, to be immersed with the Holy Spirit, for Him to breathe on us. In Acts 2, we see that it was when the people of God (the fuel) were meeting and praying together (the heat) that a sound like a mighty windstorm filled the house (the oxygen) and what looked like flames, or tongues of fire came and set those first Christians alight, and everything changed! Lord, would You come and set me on fire for You, as I offer my life as a living sacrifice, as I turn to You in prayer, come and fill me afresh, fan aflame any cooling embers in my heart and ignite a new fire within me today, that my life would burn passionately for You Jesus. Amen 🙏🏼🔥
