“Keep your lives free from the love of money and be satisfied with what you have. For God has said, “I will never leave you; I will never abandon you.” Let us be bold, then, and say, “The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What can anyone do to me?”” Hebrews 13:5-6 GNT
Money is very much in the news at the moment with a struggling economy, the threat of recession, rising interest rates to curb inflation, the value of the pound uncertain, and energy prices rocketing – it is natural to be afraid when you can see how much more money is going out compared to what is coming in. The love of money is not just describing those who have lots of it and just want to accrue more, it can also describe those who don’t have enough of it and are consumed with trying to secure more! We all need to earn a living, that’s true, but so much is outside of our control. So who are we going to trust for our future? Who is going to dictate what we do and don’t do? These verses remind us today to not let money be the driver, the love of it or the fear of not having it, that God is with us, a very present help! A dream I had last week reminded me to focus on my relationships, and to trust God for His provision. It takes courage to say out loud, ‘The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid, what can anyone do to me?’ But Lord, that is my prayer and my confidence today, that You would be the driver of my life, taking me where You need me to be. Help me to be satisfied with what I have, with the peace of knowing that You will give me all that I need. Amen 🙌🏼🙏🏼
