“So, beloved, since you are looking forward to these things, be diligent and make every effort to be found by Him [at His return] spotless and blameless, in peace [that is, inwardly calm with a sense of spiritual well-being and confidence, having lived a life of obedience to Him].” 2 Peter 3:14 AMP
Here’s another ‘make every effort,’ verse. This is not working for your salvation but it is working out your salvation. Our faith in Jesus is not passive, it is active. In holding on to God’s promises, and looking forward to all that is to come, we stay diligent, which means being attentive and persistent in doing something; in this case trusting and following Jesus. It’s that attentive, persistent trusting in Him, seeking first His Kingdom and His righteousness, that actually gives us peace! And I love the Amplified version’s description of peace – inwardly calm, with a sense of spiritual well being and confidence, having lived a life of obedience to Him! Lord, as we approach this time of advent, of looking forward to Your arrival and Your return, may You find my heart diligent as I make every effort to be found spotless and blameless, in peace! Thank You that it’s because You came to us, and because of Your crucifixion and resurrection, that I am even able to be forgiven and made right in Your sight. Help me to live obediently in the light of that today and to experience the calm that only comes from knowing You. Amen 👆🏼🙌🏼
