“Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.’ Thomas said to him, ‘My Lord and my God!’” John 20:27-28 NIV
To doubt is to call into question the truth of something, to express uncertainty or a lack of confidence as to whether something is real. Doubt will act as an obstacle to faith. I wonder why Thomas had so much doubt when the evidence for the resurrection of Jesus was so strong? Maybe he felt left out, or disappointed? Maybe he couldn’t get his mind around the horrors of Jesus’ death and couldn’t believe God had allowed it to happen? Well doubt can be stirred up in us in the same way when it comes to God. Maybe He didn’t answer my prayers in the way I thought He should? Maybe I’m jealous of how others have experienced His presence and I seem to have missed out? What is it that creates doubt in you and a diminished trust? Jesus rebuked Thomas, ‘Stop doubting and believe!’ It’s a choice we need to make! He died and was raised for you and me. He has promised to never leave us. He is currently preparing a place for us. Let’s not be unbelieving believers, Christians who doubt their beliefs and believe their doubts. Jesus is Lord. He is our God. So let’s put our trust in Him today. Amen? 🙌🏼😊
