“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!” John 14:12-14 NLT
This is one amazing promise from Jesus, not just to the disciples he was talking to at the time, but to ‘anyone who believes, so that includes us!’ But what does He really mean when He says to ask in His name? And does He really mean we can ask for anything? I don’t think Jesus is giving us some magic lamp here that we rub to summon the genie to give us whatever we wish for. This is about us aligning ourselves with who Jesus is and what He wants. His works are the works of the Kingdom that point people back to God so they can return to Him, works that demonstrate His saving power, that bring hope and life to a lost and dying world. Whatever we need that is going to help us get that message out, we can ask for! Lord, thank You for the resources and opportunities that are open to me because I bear Your name. Give me the audacity to ask for and to believe for the greater things as I pray in Your name, so that I might see You do it, Your Kingdom come and Your will done through me here, right now, today, as it is in heaven. Amen 🙌🏼🙏🏼
