“Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38 NLT
Jesus isn’t talking here about romantic love or brotherly/sisterly love, there’s a danger in modern Christianity where we emphasise that we are friends with God, which we are, that we become so pally pally with Jesus that we lose that sense of reverence and awe at who He actually is, the King of creation! The love response that Jesus is referencing here is a deep sacrificial love, reverence for the One who first loved us, who created a universe and a world where He could dwell with us and relate with us. The One who has pursued us despite our disobedience, the One who came to find us and restore us back to that relationship we were always designed for. This is a love that respects and trusts and commits wholeheartedly, my deliberations, my desires, and my decisions centered around God and His will! Lord, I know my love for You falls short in so many ways, thank You that Your love for me never does. Help me to love You with everything I’ve got – I know it is life to me. Amen 👆🏼🙌🏼❤️
