“Jesus answered, “This is the work of God: that you believe [adhere to, trust in, rely on, and have faith] in the One whom He has sent.”” John 6:29 AMP
This response from Jesus came because many in the crowd following Him were only interested in being able to perform the same miraculous works that they saw Him doing. And the question had come, ‘What do we need to do so that we can do the same things?’ Even when He told them that it was about believing in Him they then demanded He show them another miraculous sign for them to believe! It reminds me of times in my life when I’ve prayed, “God, I’ll believe in you if you do this, if you do what I want!’ Truth was that many in that crowd didn’t recognise or want to know Jesus as Lord, and He finally spells it out to them, “But you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me.” Lord, save me from consumer Christianity; I want to know You as Saviour and Lord, so I’m seeking Your face and not just Your hand, my desire to truly believe in You, to be personally acquainted with You (adhering to, trusting in, and relying on You) whatever I encounter in this life, with the faith that my life and my future IS in Your very capable hands. Amen 👆🏼🙏🏼🙌🏼
